A Medical Malpractice Lawyer Who Fights For You
Todd Huegli is a Portland, Oregon medical malpractice, personal injury, and wrongful death attorney with more than 50 complex cases tried to verdict. He has been selected to Oregon Super Lawyers every year from 2022 through 2026, and previously to Oregon Super Lawyers Rising Stars from 2016 through 2018 — eight years of peer recognition in total. The National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys named him one of the Top 10 Personal Injury Attorneys Under 40 in 2016, and the American Society of Legal Advocates named him one of the Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 in 2015.
Todd's practice is roughly 70% medical malpractice, 20% personal injury, and 10% wrongful death. He founded Huegli Law, LLC in 2018 to focus exclusively on representing injured Oregonians. Before opening the current firm, he co-founded Huegli Fraser PC in 2012 with Rhett Fraser and James Huegli — a plaintiff-side practice dedicated to medical malpractice, personal injury, and wrongful death litigation.
Todd began his legal career as a public defender, representing indigent clients facing serious criminal charges. The trial experience he gained in those early years — cross-examining police officers, taking jury verdicts under pressure, and trying cases in front of juries on a regular basis — gave him a courtroom foundation that most plaintiff-side civil attorneys never develop. Today he applies the same trial-tested discipline to medical malpractice litigation.
Over more than 17 years of practice, Todd has handled medical malpractice cases involving stroke and heart attack misdiagnosis, surgical errors, anesthesia errors, birth injuries, missed cancer diagnoses, hospital-acquired infections, nerve injuries, dental malpractice, and wrongful death from medical negligence. Settlements include $4.7 million, $4 million, and $1.7 million — all in medical malpractice cases.
Todd believes that holding negligent doctors and hospitals accountable is one of the most effective ways to make medicine safer. Civil litigation is one of the few mechanisms in American medicine that forces hospital systems to confront preventable errors. Every case is approached with the goal of recovering full and fair compensation for the client and creating consequences that make the same mistake less likely to happen to the next patient.
In 2006, the Oregon State Bar honored Todd as Pro Bono Student of the Year for volunteering more hours of pro bono service than any other Oregon law student or lawyer that year. He is a President's Circle member of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association.
